getoffPhone Aren’t you curious about this Mindfulness thing? Don’t we spend far too much time plugged in, online, on calls, sorting mails, reading texts, switching apps, then needing naps?! What if I told you – you can do all that and more and not get bogged down? Want to develop your own stress survival techniques? Come find out on Sunday afternoon, November 6th, 2016. Take some time out and explore your breath and learn some simple relaxation tools. For more information click here.

Exciting creative writing class

It was so lovely to meet the new bunch of scribblers tonite for the first in a series of six creative writing classes I am running in the lovely Gateway space, Rathmines.

We got down to scribbling pretty quickly and managed to squeeze in a chocolate-fuelled tea break to boot. They’ve been sent off with short writing assignments for next Tuesday, their heads full of characters and possible plots already. A great array of talent with varied interests and tastes and, as always, a super bunch of maggots! Looking forward to next week already.

Funny story on Creative Writing

followdream
Tapping into one’s creativity, revealing oneself through stories and writing exercises with a group of like-minded aspiring writers can be a lot of fun but it also has its challenges.

For all of you who know what it is like to be part of a creative writing group or are about to learn, this short story by Lucas Gardner published in The New Yorker is hilarious.

Join us next week in Rathmines for a fun, creative writing class. There are still some places left. It starts Tuesday, May 10th and runs for six weeks. 7.30-9.30pm – €180 per course. To book your place, call 087 374 4926 or actthemaggot@gmail.com

If your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough!

Sometimes we just need to be in the company of like-minded people to be reminded of our dreams and aspirations. It’s easy to get lazy and sluggish and forget some of the goals we used to have before life got in the way. Beginner acting classes help inspire confidence and clear thinking. Mindfulness meditation can help calm the mind in order to see clearly and make exciting plans. Creative writing helps get those hidden stories onto the page and gets the brain flowing with ideas again, especially in the group context with other adults. Remember to act the maggot as often as possible. It keeps us fresh, energetic and young at heart.
