Funny story on Creative Writing

followdream
Tapping into one’s creativity, revealing oneself through stories and writing exercises with a group of like-minded aspiring writers can be a lot of fun but it also has its challenges.

For all of you who know what it is like to be part of a creative writing group or are about to learn, this short story by Lucas Gardner published in The New Yorker is hilarious.

Join us next week in Rathmines for a fun, creative writing class. There are still some places left. It starts Tuesday, May 10th and runs for six weeks. 7.30-9.30pm – €180 per course. To book your place, call 087 374 4926 or actthemaggot@gmail.com

Creative Writing Testimonial

Amy is an inspiration! I took part in her Act the Maggot class and
creative writing class 3 years ago. What a fabulous opportunity to reach your inner creativity, in a safe, nurturing environment. Loved every minute of it.
Liz Price

Thanks for that Liz. It’s not me, it’s you! If you are reading this and thinking about jumping off the cliff and writing on your way down why not give me a call or a text 0873744926 or actthemaggot@gmail.com

Hennessy New Writing Awards

This should be of interest to beginner writers out there and provide some inspiration and future reading lists. Here is a link to a short article featuring the nominees for this year’s Hennessy 2016 Literary Awards. There is a nice blurb about each writer in their category and the focus in on beginnings, how their story was inspired, what was it’s organic starting point. Interesting stuff. Best of luck to Niall McArdle and Nathalie Ryan. If you are keen to find a good writing group in Dublin, why not try our next course starting May 10th, 2016.

If your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough!

Sometimes we just need to be in the company of like-minded people to be reminded of our dreams and aspirations. It’s easy to get lazy and sluggish and forget some of the goals we used to have before life got in the way. Beginner acting classes help inspire confidence and clear thinking. Mindfulness meditation can help calm the mind in order to see clearly and make exciting plans. Creative writing helps get those hidden stories onto the page and gets the brain flowing with ideas again, especially in the group context with other adults. Remember to act the maggot as often as possible. It keeps us fresh, energetic and young at heart.

Another Beginners Acting Class done and dusted!

IMG_2802Yes, indeed, another crop of maggots finished up last night and, as usual, they surprised and entertained with great material and performances, not to mention the really way-out, hilarious improvisations they did – taking it to a whole new level! Well done. You should all be so happy and proud of yourselves. If you want, click here for information on upcoming courses.

“Act the maggot took me to a place I haven’t been since I was a child. A place of pure joy. You meet great people from all walks of life and form firm friendships. I got to express myself in a way that I could never do in any conventional adult learning scenario and it made me feel like I was 10 feet tall.”

“Act The Maggot has been a fantastic and worthwhile experience. Highly recommended.”

“I felt alive and it carried me through the following mundane days at work. I imagine it’s what Clark Kent felt while working for the newspaper. Outside he had to be boring but inside he was superman. That’s how Amy’s class made me feel.”

Wow. The feedback has been great from our recent Improver’s Course. See more testimonials here.
